Airsoft Walks – an introduction

DO NOT GO FOR WALKS IN FULL TACTICAL KIT.

This isn’t that sort of walk.

Screen time is becoming the norm for many people. Whether at work, or sitting at home scrolling endlessly through Instagram reels. In Airsoft, we have an energetic game day at the weekend and then return home to sit and argue about it on social media for the next six days, or sit and search up new loadout ideas, order some new parts online, and watch influencers who tell us what to get next. After a call with a friend last week, we decided we needed to break out of this habit.

Airsoft Walks is a little side project where we aim to encourage players to take an hour or two out of their week to simply go for a walk and get outside and have that break from technology. Perhaps come back and share where we’ve been and what we’ve seen in the outside world, and maybe talk about what’s on our mind if we need to. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a walk around your local town, or woodland, or by the sea, or somewhere even more interesting. It’s just a case of getting out there and stretching your legs. Strava is a great app for tracking your walks, you can share it if you like to show that you’ve been out each week and perhaps that one hour will turn into two hours or more.

An hour’s walk might sound like a simple thing, and it is, but it’s a good habit to get into especially for many of us that work behind desks or feel stuck in the house a lot. And it’s not just about physical fitness, although it may help, but also mental health which is just as important. I’m not a personal trainer or a fitness influencer; I’m not going to tell you to start putting protein powder in everything from yoghurts to cakes and I’m not asking anyone to sign up to anything. But I think we all realise the benefit of getting outside for a break and for some people having a bit of structure might help build this into a routine and hopefully feel the benefit of it. Building routines and good habits is hard, especially when it’s so easy to just order an 18-inch pizza and some beers and watch Black Hawk Down instead…

I think this is such a great idea for all the reasons you mention.

I go for a walk in the woods almost daily and my mind often wanders towards airsoft. I’ll admit most of my ideas are flights of fancy, but it’s fun to let your mind wander through “what if’s” and possible scenarios.
